Day 107: Wed 10  Aug -   Wellington to Home Today towed 339km of total  11,873km - 9,970km towing . 2 Deg (felt like -2.4) to 13 Deg.  Another very cold night and morning, more ice on the windscreen, and very hard to get the fingers working while packing away the hoses and power leads this morning . Although  it remained icy cold all day, it was  beautiful in the sun, with a clear sky and no wind. We drove  away by 7:45am with quite a lot of early morning traffic in both directions, mostly freight trucks but it eased after we passed through Cowra. Our coffee  this morning, and last one for this trip, was briefly at Canowindra.  We stopped again for a rest and an early lunch snack at Booroowa at the Rest Area in town. The roads were very badly damaged from recent heavy rains, and all the rivers/creeks along the way were still flowing strongly. The countryside did look spectacular though - green and lush. The canola crops this year look fa...

Day 106: Tue 9  Aug -  Cobar to Wellington Towed 344km 3 Deg (felt like 0) to 17 Deg (In Wellington).    We got up to a very cold morning - ice on the windscreen cold. I turned the heater on, donned gloves and beanie and headed out for a walk to the Mining Heritage Park, Cobar sign and around town to take a few photos. Despite being colder than usual, it was a lovely morning for a walk, and there were beautiful colours in the sky. Back at the van, we had breakfast, then packed up and left before 8:00am, stopping near the Mining Heritage Park to fill our water tanks. We were on the road towards Nyngan by 8:15. There was very little traffic along the sometimes lumpy road, and we arrived at Nyngan, our first planned stop shortly before 10:00am. After mornos at the van, we headed off for a walk around town for a bit more than an hour. Nyngan is a neat and tidy little town, with some lovely old heritage buildings, and the locals we spoke to are all very friendly. Act...

Day 105: Mon 8 Aug - Kinchela Rest Area (Kidman Way) to Cobar

Day 105: Mon 8  Aug -  Kinchela Rest Area (Kidman Way) to Cobar Towed 119km 3 Deg to 17 Deg (In Cobar). Don't know the exact temperature this morning, but it was damn cold - cold enough to need the heater on again. We stayed in bed a little longer this morning with only 119km to drive and being too cold outside. We finally got on the road by 08:30am and arrived in Cobar at our free camp stay in the carpark behind the RSL Memorial Club just off the main street by 10:00am. The carpark was still emptying when we arrived, but we had no trouble securing a spot for the night. By 5:00pm the park was full with still more vans arriving and leaving disappointed. We left the van hitched, locked up and walked up the street to a wonderful coffee shop where I enjoyed the best cup of coffee I've had since I left home - it was fabulous. We took our time enjoying our brew, before Noel went her way looking for wool to start her next knitting project, while I wandered off to the Cobar Mining Her...
