Day 107: Wed 10 Aug - Wellington to Home

Day 107: Wed 10 Aug -  Wellington to Home

Today towed 339km of total 11,873km - 9,970km towing.

2 Deg (felt like -2.4) to 13 Deg. Another very cold night and morning, more ice on the windscreen, and very hard to get the fingers working while packing away the hoses and power leads this morning. Although it remained icy cold all day, it was beautiful in the sun, with a clear sky and no wind. We drove away by 7:45am with quite a lot of early morning traffic in both directions, mostly freight trucks but it eased after we passed through Cowra. Our coffee  this morning, and last one for this trip, was briefly at Canowindra. We stopped again for a rest and an early lunch snack at Booroowa at the Rest Area in town. The roads were very badly damaged from recent heavy rains, and all the rivers/creeks along the way were still flowing strongly. The countryside did look spectacular though - green and lush. The canola crops this year look fabulous and are just starting to show the golden colours. They should look very impressive in an another few weeks - maybe a day trip back for some photos! I won't be disappointed to not have to drive any great distances for a while, but I will miss seeing such amazing countryside. We arrived home at 1:30pm, a little tired but safe and well.  After being away from home for almost 3.5 months living in the confines of our large van, our house looked so huge inside when we walked back in. Overall we had a fabulous trip and considering the distances and variety of landscapes that we covered, we had very few issues. Overall I'm very impressed with the way the van and tow rig performed. It will be nice to relive our experiences again when I eventually sit down and start pulling them together into a photo book. It wasn't quite the 'Lap of QLD' we set off to complete, but it was nevertheless a damn good trip that will leave lasting memories.

Some statistics from this trip:
  • Total driven 11,873km (9,970km towing) at Avg 15.2lt/100km
  • Total Fuel Cost $4,066.
  • Most expensive Fuel $2.77 per lt
  • 107 days away from home, (30 days off grid)
  • Total camp/park costs $2,269 (avg $21.41/night)

Morning coffee in Canowindra

Map of our journey - Not quite a lap of QLD, but our travels took us to some amazing places that will leave some lasting memories
