Day 5: Sat 30 Apr - Yelarbon

Day 5: Sat 30 Apr - Yelarbon

15 – 28°,  Partly Cloudy, light winds and a little humid. A cool change came through in the late afternoon.
We had a great sleep last night, and it was nice waking to a beautiful clear morning and the sound of birds singing. I headed out the door at 6am for another walk through town back to the silos and around the lagoon to take photos in the morning Sun. The Yelarbon Recreational Grounds also has a small but interesting collection of old farm machinery and railway equipment. A shed containing old hand tools brought back memories of some of my uncle's old hand tools from when I was younger.

After doing our washing and a few other chores, the rest of the day was mostly relaxing, with the afternoon cloud providing some welcome relief from the sun. Late afternoon, I jumped on the bike for a quick explore. I found a marker for the end of Dingo Barrier Fence in Yelarbon, which at 8,320 km was the longest man-made fence in the world when constructed. I also found a marker for what was once a large commercial Rabbit freezing works - at one stage Yelarbon was known as the 'Rabbit Town'.

"When the Rain Comes" silos in the morning sunlight. The mural shows a young farmer boy playing in the water of the nearby lagoon which looks like an oasis surrounded by spinifex

The painting depicts a boy setting off paper boats made from historical local newspapers found at the old jail in the Recreational Grounds
