Day 6: Sun 1 May - Yelarbon to Meandarra
17 – 27°, Partly cloudy with light winds but a mostly beautiful day
Towed 227 km
We had a little rain overnight, but woke to another beautiful morning. We packed up and left the lovely Yellarbon Recreational Grounds by 9am to meet up with our travelling companions Greg and Wendy, and Kev and Jo across the road near the lagoon. A quick hello, and we were soon on our way to Goondiwindi to refuel, before continuing to our destination for the day, Meandarra. Along the way via Moonee, we travelled over some of the worst roads I have ever driven along. I've driven over these roads several times over many years, and they have always been bad, but the damage caused by the heavy rains and flooding has made them almost dangerous in places. We arrived at Meandarra safely at 1.30 and set up for the night on an unpowered site at the Brigalow Creek Camp.
Brigalow Creek is very picturesque, and well known for its fishing, however, we're only here for one night, and I'm going to save dragging the fishing gear out for the salt water experience in the north when we get there. Meandarra is very small town, unfortunately it is Sunday afternoon and everything (except the pub), is closed - even the Meandarra ANZAC Memorial Museum which i was particularly looking forward to seeing. The rest of the day involved a walk around town, followed by a bike ride with the boys further around town and along the creek, then we had pre-dinner drinks watching a fabulous sunset. Dinner tonight was Beef Korma curry with Basmati rice which Noel had prepared and frozen before we left home - it tasted superb - we're really roughing it away from home... Tomorrow, we head via Condamine and Surat to Roma for two or three days.
