Day 9: Wed 4 May - Roma
13 – 28°, Clear blue sky and light winds in the morning with cloud building throughout the day, and eventually light rain in evening.
Our stay is at the Roma Gun Club Caravan and Camping park. It's a nice quiet park about 3.5km from the centre of town with clean facilities and plenty of spacious sites that are well spread out. Noeleene and I enjoyed our 3 day visit to Roma last year, and we've enjoyed this visit as much. Roma is a lovely country town; we've found the locals very friendly with some even stopping in the street for a chat. It's been a great spot to relax and restock before continuing our journey to west QLD tomorrow.
After breakfast we drove into town to buy a few essentials followed by coffee in the main street watching the locals go about their daily business. After lunch the boys set off on their bikes for a very leisurely ride to the Big Rig Tourist Information centre and historic Lenroy Slab Hut, the Basset Park Mural and the Roma Bush Gardens. With our departure tomorrow morning and rain looking imminent, on return to the vans, we packed up early for drier departure. Dinner tonight turned out to be a highlight of the day, with a group visit to a local Indian restaurant which we noticed in the main street yesterday. It was a fabulous meal; plentiful, very tasty and incredible value. The young family had recently taken over management and they did a great job - we all wished them the very best. It was a lovely evening and a great way to end an enjoyable stay in Roma.
