Day 44: Wed 8 Jun - Ayr
17 – 26°. A mostly clear day, with light winds throughout the day, becoming overcast in the late afternoon. We still seem to be staying ahead of the cold front that is slowing creeping up the coast - apparently it will drop down to an overnight temperature of 7deg on Sat, but we plan to be further north. Greg and I went for our usual morning walk, today it was through the main street, and we found a lovely clean and tidy town, unfortunately way too many empty shops. There are some nicely renovated art deco buildings to be found as well. After breakfast back at the van, I repaired a brass water pressure reducing valve which had seized, but in doing so, I cross threaded the PVC pipe connector and had to search around town to find a replacement. No problem, and the end result is we have normal water pressure again. Feeling good about my handy work, we sat down for morning tea before all heading on the bikes for a ride to the Information Centre, Plantation Park, the Jurawalk and last of all the Ayr Nature Display. The latter is a private collection by Allan and Jess Ey of some 60,000 different specimens of butterflies, moths, beetles, crabs, sea shells reptiles, rocks and fossils. This is an absolute must if ever visiting Ayr. We returned to the van for lunch, then Noeleene and I drove back into town to buy an Airfryer which we had talked about buying for some time (Phillips ended up being the choice). On the way back to the van, I stopped at Puma to handover $219 for 107lt fuel - that hurt. The fuel economy is going well, in fact, I think it has actually improved since I replaced the tyres. Greg and I then went out for a longer afternoon ride (20km) into cane fields, it was a lovely ride on a beautiful afternoon. Back at the van, dinner was pie and chips at our place cooked in the new Air Fryer (it got a big tick all round), before watching the State of Origin outside under the awning - and what a good result that was to wrap up another day.
