Day 73: Thu 7 Jul - Normanton to Karumba
Towed 79km
10-25 Deg, It was another very fresh morning but it remained cloudless and sunny all day with much less wind than previous days. An early walk into town from the campground with Greg and another magnificent sunrise as backdrop. With only 79km to travel today, we took our time, returning to the van to pack and brew up before we left for Karumba at about 9:30am. We arrived in good time via more excellent road, with evidence of recent rains pooled along the roadside and in dams. There were also plenty of cattle in vast open plains and lots of birdlife along the way, including large numbers of Brolgas as we neared Karumba. Surprisingly, there was very little road kill today.
We arrived at the Karumba Point Tourist Park and setup by midday, then had a light lunch before we drove into the Barra Discovery Centre to book our 2pm tour tomorrow, and stopped to buy a few essentials on the way back. I set up a fishing rod and rode down to the waterfront to flick a few lures while watching the sunset before Greg joined me for a beer on the beach. Noel and Wendy stayed behind at the van for their sunset drinks. Dinner tonight was simple but very tasty home cooked burgers and chunky chips cooked in the air fryer - Happy wife (Noel missed her chips while free camping).
It is very poor internet here, so a bit of a delay posting.
