Day 90: Sun 24 Jul - Winton

Day 90: Sun 24 Jul - Winton

8 (felt like 5) to 28 deg. Not quite so fresh this morning, turning into another glorious hot sunny, cloudless day, and no wind. An early morning walk around town, returning to the van for breakfast then Noel and I drove 22 km along the Landsborough Highway towards Longreach to the Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum of Natural History, the last of our four part Australian Dinosaur Trail tour. The museum is focused on Australia's evolutionary history, in particular the discovery, conservation and research of Australia's dinosaurs. It's a very active working museum which is also an education resource, research facility and major tourist attraction. Our 4 hour tour titled the Ultimate Dinosaur Tour was very comprehensive including a guided tour of the Fossil Preparation Laboratory, Collection Room and March of the Titanosaurs exhibition, as well as a self guided walk through the Dinosaur Canyon.  We arrived at 9:30am and left shortly after 1:00pm, and we both agree it was very informative and a great experience. Each of the attractions at Richmond, Hughenden and Winton (x2) are all very different, and worthwhile doing even if you don't have a particular interest in dinosaurs. The afternoon was spent back at the van, Noel baking a cake and muffins while I watched. (I actually refuelled the ute and was in shock for hours after paying almost $260 to fill the tank).  I had a short bike ride around town later in the afternoon then we both settled in for a quite evening. We certainly made the most of our three day stay in Winton.
