Day 102: Fri 5 Aug - Augathella to Cunnamulla
Towed 285km
13 to 18 Deg. The rain started before daylight and didn't ease until we arrived in Cunnamulla about 12.30pm. Dejavu...the third time in as many months we've driven along the road between Charleville and Cunnamulla, and each time we've had solid rain. The rain today was constant all the way, but it was particularly heavy 40km either side of Wyandra, and as a result the roads were holding a lot of water, and the roadsides and paddocks were flooded. At least our booked caravan site was still available when we arrived at the Cunnamulla Tourist Park, unlike last time when we had to drive 200km back to Charleville because our booked site had been given away. This time we have a very large drive through site, but it could have been very different as the park is only able to use 50% of its sites due to the heavy rain which has fallen over the past 24 hours. After setting up, we had lunch then made our way into the Cunnamulla Fella Centre which includes the Information Centre, an art gallery and a heritage museum. The art gallery was exhibiting a range of local indigenous art which I thought was very good, but the key attraction at the centre was the Artesian Time Tunnel which explains the evolution of the Great Artesian Basin, how it's shaped the landscape and how it helps the formation of opals. The attached link is for a video that I watched - I thought it was very interesting and worth a look:

After an 1.5 hours in the centre, I dragged myself away, and we went for a stroll around town before returning to the caravan park. The skies were still clearing with some blue sky appearing, so I went out for a walk behind the caravan park into the sand hills - there was a lot of water laying, and quite muddy, but at the top of the sand hills were some lovely views. It is much cooler this evening and a low of seven deg is expected tonight. Being connected to power again meant we could use the air fryer again - ginger, lime and honey chicken breast with jasmine rice, broccolini and spinach was a winner. A relaxing evening watching a game of AFL followed.
